Художественная галерея леди Левер была основана сэром Уильямомом Хескетом Левером в память о своей жене Элизабет.
Собрание галереи, насчитывающее более двадцати тысяч произведений изобразительного и декоративно-прикладного искусства, по праву считается одним из лучших в Великобритании, а коллекция работ прерафаэлитов (Джона Эверетта Милле, Уильяма Холмана Ханта, Данте Габриэля Россетти, Форда Мэдокса Брауна) – одной из лучших в мире.
Для посетителей музей открылся в 1922 г.
